Dan Whitney, President, Landmarketing
Dan brings 19-years of homebuilding industry experience and consulting to the task of helping new home communities succeed. His combined degrees in Landscape Architecture and Marketing give him a unique vantage point from which to evaluate land development opportunities as they relate to current conditions and demographic trends.
Prior to forming Landmarketing, Dan was responsible for the design, positioning, product selection, feasibility and zoning approval for many communities as a Regional Land Manager for a top-five national homebuilder. In that position, he was a client of MarketGraphics and Dan saw how MarketGraphics works with a wide range of builders, developers, construction lenders, suppliers and organizations to address their housing research and information needs. Dan is a licensed real estate broker in Kansas and Missouri.
Dan sees life and business as a series of oddly connected, ironic and often humorous events, opportunities and circumstances that if seized upon, can lead to great things. However, happenstance, luck and shifting winds do not make a career. Whitney is the personification of the quote, “Ninety-five percent of luck is perspiration”.
As a trained Landscape Architect with an advanced degree in business, he did not foresee a career in creating five companies with products as diverse as housing surveys, young adult lifestyle products, information collection and contact management or land development. However, the design professions taught Dan to conceptualize a challenge, develop a process for solving a challenge and accept setbacks along the way as refinement opportunities. Most importantly, these ventures clearly illustrate the value of “Keeping the End in Mind”.
This philosophy translates into Dan’s personal hobbies as an amateur auto restorer, inventor and landscape designer; all requiring a longer perspective to see the project to completion while raising three children and moving countless times.
Paul Clem, Vice-President, Landmarketing
Paul knows firsthand about tenacity. As a sales executive and professional, Clem has enjoyed a career that includes both Fortune 500 firms and entrepreneurial companies. President of three startups, Clem understands inevitably everyone will be “wrong” on occasion, but the key is managing by “how much” you will be wrong.
If you’re a land buyer you need a team. You need a good relationship with a lender and the services of an attorney. And you need a real estate agent. Clem is committed to help you identify the tract of land that meets your objectives.
Paul is a valuable source of information that often knows of properties long before they publicly known. He has a special knack at identifying unlisted “under-the-radar” tracts that could save you hundreds of thousands dollars if they were otherwise listed. He has been with Landmarketing since 2003 where he has steadily built a network of potential buyers and sellers.
Paul is a self-avowed “junk runner” and fully acknowledges his running limitations. However, he will tell you that for him the essence of a marathon isn’t running. It’s about life applications—hard work, dedication, perseverance and finishing.
Running has many parallels with buying land. It’s about patience. It’s learning that you can start too fast and never finish, and you can start too slow and never catch up. It’s about living in the thrill of the moment and understanding the best things in life don’t come quickly.
